Which brings me to the fact that Korvka's power should probably be looked over... considering that controling soil/rocks and controling and accelerating the growth of plants are two entirely different powers, as similar as.. say.. breathing fire and superstrength :<

2010-12-21 [Duredhel]: Ok posting... but here's what I'm not getting... how can korvka gain energy from eating something she used her own energy to produce? >,< where is the extra energy coming from? Isn't the amount of energy obtained from eating say.. a plant, a fraction of the amount used to produce it?
2010-12-21 [Roma]: That's why I had her plant a bush that would produce more than one bit of fruit. Yeah, it costs energy to make the seed grow into a plant, but unless you're counting that each berry grown is sapping energy from Korvka I don't agree with your conclusion.
2010-12-21 [Duredhel]: Uhhm.. actually there's a good chance an apple has more energy that all the berries in the bush packed together, since it has a greater biomass. And really it doesn't matter if it's one berry or a thousand, a certain amount of energy is invested into growing the bush, that energy is then subdivided into all the parts of the bush, a lot is lost in cellular processes and only a bit ends up in the berries perse.
So Korvka is putting say... 10 into growing the bush, 5 are lost in cellular processes, 4 are stored in leaves, roots, etc. and 1 is in the berries (so probably about 0,1 per berry). So the energy intake a fraction of a fraction of the energy spent to produce the bush in the first place.
2010-12-21 [Roma]: But I was hung up on the fact that she already had the seed. I figured that for her to create the apple, which would not just be an apple, she'd have to grow a bit of plant along with it, expending even more energy there, it would be a better use of her energies to just use a seed she already had. Since she already had the seed from the handful she made, I thought it would be less taxing than to start from scratch.
2010-12-21 [Duredhel]: Uhhm.. keep in mind the energy the plant uses to grow doesn't come from the seed (yes, there is a bit of food stored there, but it's a minimal part). Unfortunately it's impossible for Korvka to regain energy from eating anything she grew herself, in fact, it would be a huge waste of energy. So far I had figured she was obtaining energy through photosynthesis and just ate for pleasure.
Almost all the energy any living thing has through its lifetime is spent on growing and other functions, and only a minimal part is stored. So you'll never gain more energy from eating the cow than what it took to.. uhm.. grow it.

If Korvka is both the producer and the primary consuming, every time she grows anything to eat with her powers, she's losing 90% of the energy she used while regaining only 10%.
